Save big bucks with business energy retrofit program

Cook County business owners looking to save on energy costs (and enhance their buildings) are invited to an IRRRB Business Energy Retrofit (BER) informational meeting in Silver Bay next Monday, Aug. 1.

The BER program assists business owners with grants to aid in financing energy retrofit projects. Eligible business owners can receive grants of up to $20,000 to help cover one-third of the total project cost. The program is administered by the Arrowhead Economic Opportunity Agency.

This program is the real deal. Over the last three years, Cook County businesses have secured grants totaling $130,000 through the BER to improve the energy efficiency of their businesses. Those businesses include Joynes Department Store, Blue Water Café, Grand Marais Auto Parts, Grand Marais Art Colony, Art House B&B and others. Lighting, fixtures, building envelope sealing, appliances, motors, equipment, insulation, ventilation, heating and cooling, windows, doors and renewable energy projects are eligible.

The Silver Bay meeting will run from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 1, at the Silver Bay Recreation Center, 109 Outer Drive. At the meeting, business owners will learn more about the program, talk with other business owners who have utilized the program, and learn about other energy saving resources.
